Our Governance


WYCAS is a small charitable company operating in West Yorkshire (Charity Number 1076962, Company number 3721361) which has been in existence since September 2000. We were originally, formed as BALCAS to serve the Bradford and Leeds areas, (this is still our official company name!). We became known as WYCAS when we extended our services to the whole of West Yorkshire in 2005 following a successful funding application.

Membership of WYCAS is open to recognised infrastructure organisations working in the West Yorkshire area. Members may appoint a Director to the Board.

WYCAS also actively encourages service users to be represented at Board level. We aim to have a service user from each of the five metropolitan district areas of West Yorkshire as a trustee. This helps us to make sure that the needs of the organisations we serve are properly considered at a strategic level.

Up to five more trustees may be co-opted to make sure that the Board has the appropriate range of skills and experience it feels it needs.

The Board is responsible for the overall governance of the organisation and typically meets four times a year.  It is supported by a personnel sub-committee comprising of three trustees, and various task and finish groups which are formed as necessary to address specific strategic and governance issues.
